La Casa Verde is a movement of decolonizing that begins with the practice of Radical Self-Care as the root of healing and from this place growing healthy families and communities. Laila has been a practicing artist for over 19 years and holds a BFA in Community Arts from the California College of the Arts and an MA in Performance Studies from UC Berkeley. Here’s what “KIKI” Lyons has to say about La Casa Verde Workshops:
I first started taking private one-on-one classes with Laila in 2018 after walking by an outdoor installation she was working on at a local shop in Berkeley. I was an artist struggling to feel confident in my chosen medium and was struck by Laila’s warmth and technical painting mastery. After several months of working with Laila, I developed the confidence to begin painting at home. Recently, Laila has helped support me in creating my first original work. I am highly critical of my work, like most artists, but through Laila’s encouragement, I had the confidence to apply for the Expressive Art Therapy program at CIIS Summer 2020. I am living the life of my dreams and I owe that in part to my workshops with Laila. She has this powerful way she connects with her students that not only refines art skills but develops intuition.
